Is Wood Ash Good For Chickens

Birds have delicate respiratory systems so I'd be wary of any known irritant.

I put a little lime and ash under the bedding in my coop to help balance the pH of the eventual compost but avoid exposing my chickens to it directly.

Okay I will still use dirt then.

My chickens tend to peck their dustbathing dirt.

Its not bad for them to have it, the dust can be an irritation though, so I would moderate it.

Burn piles and stove ash pile are my girls favorite spots. So is every flower bed I’d rather them not dig in.
