My incubator failed to even start the grow of the embryos this year (I think it might’ve been too cold) but just last night my silkie hen Yeti became broody! She is my very first broody hen. I’m almost positive she is but just to be fully positive I thought I should ask.
Her signs are; having been on the eggs for over 12 hours now, got up to eat very very quickly while I took out the smaller eggs and fixed the nesting box up, feathers scattered around the nesting box from plucking from other hens and her own(brood patch?), I gave her fresh bedding and as soon as I was done she went and horded the eight eggs I left her and moved the bedding around to fit properly. Oh and the entire time I was messing with her eggs she was trilling and keeping a very close eye on me (I’m very close with my chickens thankfully so she trusts me, she did peck me once), she’s spreading out fully wings and all on the eggs and locks onto any chicken getting too close. She’s not quite a year old but almost is and I do have a silkie rooster who is very good at his job. She originally had 12 eggs under her but I don’t want the ones that are too small to be hatching so I took them away from her.

Oh! And I saw cuts on one of my youngest hens faces I’m guessing from her getting too close to yeti, she’s usually never picked on. I make sure to sell any agressive hens
