ISA brown passed oviduct?

I was treating my friends flock for scaly mites and one of her isa’s had this poking out her cloaca. After a couple of minutes it came out, followed closely by an egg yolk (no albumen, no shell). It was approximately 4cm long

Is this part of her oviduct? Are we looking at end of life? I have warned her that ISA’s don’t live long and have lots of reproductive issues.

Can you cut it open so we can see the inside? Lengthwise would be good.

Hard to tell if that's several wrapped up soft shells with sloughed off material or if it's Lash Material (Salpingitis).

Has this hen been having any productive issues? Any other symptoms, like lethargy, not eating/drinking, crop problems, etc.?

For now, if she's acting normal, eating/drinking, active, I would give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 to see if she expels any more material or lays a normal hard shelled egg. Give her the Calcium for 5days.

IF that turns out to be Salpingitis (Lash), then you'd still want to give the Calcium to see if there's more that is on the way out and consider giving her an antibiotic to help offer supportive care. While there is no cure for Salpingitis, if the inflammation is caught early, the antibiotic may be helpful in extending life for a good while.

Can you cut it open so we can see the inside? Lengthwise would be good.

I dissected it. The bulbous end had liquid in it, similar consistency to albumen, the darker coloured part was a tube - hollow inside with a string of white sinew. The lumpy white part was solid tissue with a bit of the albumen like liquid. Hardly any liquid in any of it, mainly all tissue.

None of her birds are in great health.

All rescue ISA’s that she took in. They’re in the yard and she collects eggs and that’s about it. She asked me for advice when one of them was lame and I told her about scaly leg mites, 6 of 12 birds had very advanced scaly leg, she hadn’t noticed, so I highly doubt she would know if this particular hen has been lethargic or laying.

She’s not a bad person, just isn’t a crazy chook lady like I am.
