Isbar thread

Just got the worlds smallest egg from my Isbar pen too. In 4-years of chicken keeping I have never gotten a 'wind egg' until today....It weighs .153 oz -- we are talking a burp in the little egg tract of my pullet for sure
OK, wait...what breed do you have in there with the Isbars that laid this color egg? That's surely not from an Isbar...

Nope, only Isbars are in there.

... just think -- to get a green egg - you need a blue egg shell then it gets coated with SOME brown pigment. This tiny egg had all her brown inkjet pigment for a whole big egg -- on just one tiny egg -- so it kept getting coated with brown again and again -- and again and again -- and you can't really tell it is a dark olive green - and not a chocolate color. (sometimes cameras don't tell the truth)-- it is a pullet and as I said -- only Isbars live in that pen. I only have green and blue egg layers - No browns at all.

I recently got two isbar chicks. A splash and a dark blue. Any thoughts or ideas on when sexing is possible? What are some of the characteristics to look for to distinguish between pullet and cockerel?
PS- I know I can wait for the crow..

Very cute! How old? Those 2 look like pullets. Isbars cockerels usually start getting a larger, redder comb by about 4 or 5 weeks old.

Welcome to BYC and to Isbars! You will love them!

I hope so! They are about two weeks old. I was hoping for two pullets...but the woman who hatched said the splash might be a male....the waiting game continues!

X2 - Definitely a bigger comb and seems to me sometimes the cockerel babies have bigger feet and are more curious and dominant.

Beautiful chicks!

Thank you! They are part of a pretty eclectic flock to be! They are just in that bin for cleaning time....it is the only time I can get them all in one picture!
