Isbar thread

I do the same thing when my girls start picking on each other.  The flock block is great.  Sometimes I rig a way to hang a whole head of cabbage from the coop top.  That really keeps them busy.
Just switching things around sometimes helps.  Kinda like changing the furniture in your house!

Yeah I know what you're saying, I actually do the same exact thing.

Just a funny note too - regarding my Isbar male -- (Love that guy) -- after his molt his tail is growing in curly:

frizzle?
Mystery solved! it isn't mites, and it probably isn't anything genetic. Just the other night I noticed that the roost is so close to the roof angle that his tail feathers are smooshed into the inside top angle of the roof...so every night they are getting messed up --- I guess re-arranging the roost or moving him to a different coop would be a good thing to do.

here they are. I had issues with my incubator during lockdown, so very thankful to have these beauties happy and healthy. No idea if feather sexing works with this breed. If so the black and the super light are pullets and the blue all the way to the right is a roo.

Congrats Elliemae1230 so cute!!!!

Who has crossed Isbar X Marans and can give info as to egg color in the cross? I have heard a lot of conflicting information. Thanks in advance!
I have been reading back through this thread...Trying to gleen some knowledge so I can do this breed some justice.

However, I found this and had to reply since I have these in my flock...quite by accident! I have two of these from Simone- She had paired a Jean Wade BCM with a GFF blue isbar. The two hens that resulted are in the front of my pic here. They are blue. We named them "The twins" I hatched 6/6 eggs from a dark BCM egg. The resulting Roosters were stunning as well but a bit aggressive so...two went into the stew pot, one got beat up pretty hard and did not recover and the last one which was my favorite ever....distracted a neighbor dog from the flock and lost his life. The dog came back twice for him...Willy was a Good good beautiful boy! I re-ordered from her and I have six more chicks due to hatch today...

I also have some Hona/Isbar crosses I hatched for fun. They are extremely strong & cute! LOL

However, now I am actually trying to set up some for breeding for my pure isbars so, I will have to clear my camera for them & get some help from you all!

Well, like it was posted many moons ago I ordered 10 Isbars.

And life/fate hated that and from 10 we are down to 5, and for that reason I am wonder how many breeders are hatching and selling this year?

My focus, right now, is hatching Isbars. Was the reduction in the number due to predators?

How many people are putting effort into increasing the number of Isbars in the world? The answer to your question would be really interesting IMO.

BTW, I have only 1 Isbar hen laying at the moment. Add to that, lately her eggshells seem a bit rough and porous. Have read here on BYC that porous eggs can successfully hatch, but my expectations are pretty low.
