Isn't there one single feed I can use for flock of all ages?

I want to, eventually, put most of my chickens together. Since I have different ages, how am I going to feed them? For example: I have silkies ... 2 of each age 1 month, 5 months, 1 year. Please advise.

Did I read somewhere about using a game bird feed all the time? I have looked for the thread, but can not find it ...... maybe it was some other kind of feed.?

You can use Grower feed (or gamebird, but it's super expensive) as long as you put out free choice oyster shell for the layers so they'll have enough calcium.

we have used 20%starter and now are using 15% grower/finisher and the 4 girls that are laying get calcium from egg shells that i give them. my others are all 14 weeks, and we had the same problem when we put them out in the coop with the girls. but realized (after asking here) that the start and grower were really just more protein and it couldn't hurt. just make sure they get the calcium they need for laying. or you could have a softshell issue.

You can feed a grower to them... Just make shure that it is a crumble or a mash the pellet is a little hard for chicks to eat...

I feed mostly 22% game bird feed. If I don't happen to have any really young ones out there I'll buy layer and the ones in the big coop are getting layer now. I still feed my bantams game bird feed though even if I only have adults in the pen. All my chicks eat the 22% game bird feed right from the start. I just put out a seperate container of oyster shell for those that are laying.
