Hi, tall,
I'm new to this, so if this post needs to be moved/removed, then please let me know.
Does anyone who has purchased a broody hen have advice for a noob like me? Like ANY ADVICE would be amazing.
We live in a teeny, tiny community, so using social media (and even craigslist) has proven fruitless. There are no hatcheries nearby, and I cannot locate one online who will sell only one or two birds for shipping. :-/ The BST forum here is overwhelming, because it's not broken down by area. THAT IS NOT A CRITICISM! I've a learning disability which precludes me from being able to sort/read/look over a mass of data and break it into smaller chunks. Sorry for the tl;dr - I just didn't want to come across as a jerk or ingrate.
Thank you for your time and guidance.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Glad you joined.

I'm not exactly sure of what you are asking. I think you have a broody hen and are looking for baby chicks to put with her for her to raise. For that you need chicks that just hatched. If she is broody, could you find fertile eggs to let her hatch?

Whatever you are after, my suggestion is to call your county extension office and see if they can help. Some offices and agents re better than others, but there is a pretty good chance they can help. Anther suggestion is to talk to the people at the feed store, you might get lucky. Or maybe they will let you put a notice on a bulletin board.

Good luck with it.

Thank you!!! This is a really great site.
What I'm asking is how to purchase the hen ("iso" = in search of). I've a beautifully productive Pekin, but she's rubbish for nesting.
I don't want to spend tons of money on an incubator - so a hen seems the next logical choice.
Thank you for your insight, and I'll call the extension office forthwithly.
Have a beautiful day!!!
