Hello!

I recently had a client tell me she can no longer purchase duck eggs from me if they eat a feed with corn. So I'm curious what options there are for feeds without corn, but im also on a budget.

Currently feeding the Dumor Duck food. I have 2 drakes and 8 hens. They do well on the food. They also have a large run with plenty of bugs, worms and grubs to eat. Plus we give them veggies and meal worms often. I have cayuga and Swedish ducks for reference.

Thanks!

So all you need is a corn free feed, not necessarily organic?
Mealworms are probably fed corn too.
Does she give a reason?
Essentially yeah, just corn free feed, true, I hadn't thought about meal worms eating corn 😅 she just stated for dietary reasons she can't consume eggs from birds fed corn. I'm not sure how the corn effects the eggs too much 🤔

It does in very minimum ways but if she's very sensitive, she may also have a reaction to corn adjacent grains.
Nutrena makes a hearty hen layer that's soy and corn free, and many companies also make corn free feed.

Hmmm ok, I use Nutrena for my chickens. But have never seen a duck food from them just the "all flock". I have 2 mos old ducklings with my adults so was trying to stick with a higher protein duck feed, at least for the moment.

I appreciate your help! I will look more at the nutrena brand

It's a chicken food but a little augmentation can make it a duck food.

To make it a whole lot easier, you don't necessarily have to feed ducks duck food. They can have chicken feed, I'm currently feeding my ducks with chicken feed! I believe the only big difference would be Niacin. But you can supplement that separately. To supplement Niacin, get some Durvet High Level B Complex Injectable, and mix a couple MLs with some wetted feed. You could feed that every few days.

I feed my flock of drakes very much as you do with Dumor and veggies plus they free range.

My son has a drake and laying females and feeds them organic layer feed. It's mean for chickens and so he adds brewers yeast. His flock also gets veggies and meal worms, and oyster shell on the side. His ducks used to free range in his organic, fenced back yard, but a neighbor's husky got over the fence into the yard and savaged his drake and 2 of his females last year. So now he has a 6ft high 10ft x 20 ft pen for them. They are only allowed to free range when some one is in the garden or the rear porch. So providing a good diet is vital for penned ducks
