I'm glad you were able to see the vet.Hey just an update ... took Maisie to the vet. No worms. He said she’s malnourished and it appears it’s a congenital issue. He’s got her on antibiotics but if she doesn’t get better he said she may have to be put down.![]()
Ironically she is eating which makes the vet really scratch his head. She just moved to eating the Dumor Poultry 15%grower and finisher. Previously she was on the starter and grower.
He said to continue giving her the grain
Personally I would put her on chick starter or an all flock type feed that is 18-20% protein. 15% is quite low even for adults (again my opinion). She can’t stand at all
24% chick starter? Do you have a photo of the bag? Too much protein can also cause some problems, so look at chick starter formulated for chickens - those are usually around 18-20%. Game (quail/pheasant, etc) and Turkey starters are usually the higher protein. So sorry I have goats and must have them on my mind. I totally meant feed. I’ve had a family emergency the last couple of days and with my sick Maisie on top of it ... my head isn’t on quite right. I am going to put her back on 24%. Marek's seems very possible ... the vet wants me to call him on Monday. He is an avian vet. I know if it’s a virus antibiotics won’t help. She’s been isolated for a week, but I’m also concerned as to what to do with the rest of my flock.
