Been experimenting raising my own chickens with a kijiji level breeder mixed with a professional- mixed breeds.

Started having issues in December with hatching- looks like they will break open the shell and get trapped, and found with carefulness it was possibly shrink wrapping? There's an opaque membrane around them but minimal blood. His legs were larger than his head and looked a bit awkward to have them together that way.

I had not done this earlier with another case, left him with the beak out, and that chick died a day later. I had opened another as well and found at day 24, it was roughly day 18 in the development. My incubator is not rotating on it's own so I may have been opening it to rotate the other eggs, or to up the humidity. Either or, my first try was roughly 60 percent survival,(June) then closer to 25 (Sept) percent, now closer to 10 percent.(Jan)

As shrink wrapping is due to humidity, would colder temps in winter also cause this, or just the lockdown interruption? I have put in eggs after this last rescue roughly 4 days after the fact, should, at day 18, lockdown start with all, or should I not be so concerned? Sorry this so technical- wondering if not knowing my breeds also change if he's an awkward mix. Should I wait for warmer temps out of winter for better humidity control?
Thanks!

It's having a hard time with the mechanism and getting up to 38- do you just put a thermometer in here to see if it's true? I looked up calibrating but maybe you have a suggestion if its breaking down?- I bought it last year but it's maybe a crappy internet invention? Anything you suggest that's not usually out there?
