so yesterday we had to put down one of our first 5 original chickens which was tough. she had a prolapse and it was just really bad and smelly. at least thats what i think it was it didnt look good or smell good. anyways my sister noticed black dots on her comb, waddle and face especially around her eyes. i said they were scabs. she was a naked necked chicken and so i figured thats what it was. she got tweezers...nope it was ticks. i believe there deer ticks. they are tiny like specks of dirt. so they havnt been on long. i checked my other chickens over tonight and notice some have them some dont. so im wondering what i can do to treat them because theres too many to pick off and i do mean they are tiny. i dont have any pictures of the ticks but i can get them tomorrow if need be. our issue is we live in somewhat of a wooded area and theres alot of tall brush behind where we have the chickens. ill post pictures of the area to give you the issue were dealing with. i need to know what we can buy to put all around the place to help prevent the ticks. i thought chickens eat them but im guessing since there so tiny they cant see them? any help or advice would be great.

these are our dogs but as you can see over the fence there is alot of trees and dry grass this was a couple years ago

this is the lower half of our backyard. at the top of the picture you can make out fence under the tree thats where our chickens are. so any advice to get rid of them and prevent the ticks would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how safe it is, though I have read here of others doing it. If they were mine, they would get a dose of Frontline flean and tick medicine for dogs, routinely. I'd just compute a dose by weight.

I have no idea whether there is any chemical control that would really be effective, but there is one very useful control: a flock of guineas.
