My chick hatched yesterday.. I still have her in the brooder. Her legs are splayed and toes are curled. I don't know what do do. I've looked in my books and haven't found anything for the combined issues. This is only the 3rd chick I've ever hatched. She was 2 days early, had trouble getting out of shell and had a little blood on rump.

You can get special medical vet tape or cut a band aid in half longways and wrap it around it's legs, you can compare it to another chick to see where the legs are meant to be and place the band aid on its upper leg joint. Make sure you help it eat and drink and it has a possibility of dying. I hope everything goes well, I've had a couple chicks like this and it has gone both ways. The way to prevent this in the future is to not let the humidity drop when it's hatching and make sure it has some bedding that it can grip onto. Good luck!
