issues with going in at night.

I’ve tried getting them with mealworms... they want nothing to do with them...

Do they have any favorite food? The main thing I found with mine is making them walk up the ramp themselves a couple times- for whatever reason they don't equate walking up the ramp with walking down the ramp at first.

Old fashioned oatmeal... that’s the only thing I’ve given them that they liked... and watermelon but they weren’t giant fans of that they left most of it for the ants which they ate the second time I gave it to them...

I took 2 sheets of cardboard tonight and attached it to the sides of the ramp and kind of corralled them up to the ramp and they all walked up it and into the coop tonight... I did have 5 of the 12 go in before I went out sooooo that’s 1 more that went in on their own than I had do it yesterday...

Nice!! Hopefully tomorrow night will bring more - seems like by night 3 they have it figured out. Good job!

Cooked or raw? I’m having the same problem so I thought I’d try some chicken treat to help convince them

So I have 12 chicks ranging from 3-5 weeks old (soon to be 4-6 weeks old) and at night they gather underneath the ramp into the coop rather than going in. I leave the light on for them, I build a more shallow ramp, and I tried locking them in the coop for 24 hrs. I'm in need of suggestions on how to get them to put themselves up at night. Or is it normal to have to catch your chicks every night after sun down?
Most of the time new ones have to be watched a few nights till they get it. I would take a long handled net and sho them in making some noise. If they try to run scoop them up. All the other chickens will probably squawk at the disturbance but that's alright. They will learn from it. They will begin putting them selves up after that.

Treats can help get them onto the ramp to go home- choose something your chick/en/s already love, or introduce something during the day until you find what they want. Having a second person inside or near the entrance to keep them up in the coop (with the treat) is helpful, but the main thing is to get their legs walking up the ramp. 🐤

Their favorite treat is hard boiled eggs which absolutely freaks my kids out

I pretty sure I had to at first now they just go in themselves.

This may not be the easiest way, but it worked for me. I had to catch the babies and put them in at night. After a week or so they got the point and went in on their own. They went in much later than the big birds. It wasn't until they were integrated with the rest of the flock that they got better timing for bedtime.
