OMG.

Whomever told me that planning a simple wedding in 2 months wouldn't give me time to be stressed is full of crap and doesn't know my mother. I just spent the last hour listening to why the location where we plan to get married is trashy and will make my parents look bad.

"It's dirty."
"If you can't do it right, just go away and get married and don't bother."
"It's bad timing."
"It'll make us look bad and people at the wedding will start slipping us fives to make sure we can afford the gas to get home."
"You can't do all that work. You're working up until right before the wedding."

My personal favorite:
"I know you were an event planner for 5 years but you can't plan a wedding."

I eloped. Been married 24 years (the best of my life) and never had to say thanks to anyone.

My parents gave me $ equivalent to what my other siblings weddings cost and I think they were secretly very relieved that there was no wedding (I was the first daughter to marry).

I did, however, marry in Europe, so it would have been quite costly for everyone to fly in. I still think I did them all a favor!

I have noticed that some of the best weddings I have been to have been planned quite quickly!

If she continues, try to freak her out by telling her ideas that you get from that CMT show "My Big Redneck Wedding" (possum-themed cakes, mud-wrasslin' , camo wedding dresses, beer slip 'n' slides at reception, saying vows while in a tree stand, etc) That might zip her lip.

Why spend that money on a one day show for the people you invite? Stress yourself out for months for one day of even more stress which is nothing as special as spending every day with your SO. Spend it on something better like a house, paying off a house if you have one, or invest it in a college fund for yourself or your kids of present or future!
