Well spring must be coming as my in-laws cat had kittens last night & then this morning I went to water the ducks to be pleasantly surprised by their first egg! It was just laying in the doorway of the coop (a bonus they laid it in the coop!).

Now I’m just curious as to ‘who dun it’! (Pictures at the end of thread) It was equivalent to a large chicken egg. The color bloom itself is kinda throwing me. It’s not a traditional white. I’d say more a buff color or a Cayuga color at the end of season... kinda dirty looking.

Suspect breeds:
Cayuga mix (Rouen?)- Wilma
Rouen Mix- Stella
Blue Swedish- Blue
Saxony- Lil Miss
Welsh Harlequin- Harley

My top suspect would be my Cayuga mix (Rouen?) she’s the smallest by far and well has the possibility of having coloured bloom.

Any guesses for you more experience people? I might become invasive and go look at duck bottoms for a clue lol.

I. Have Saxony ducks and that looks a lot like their eggs. They start out a bit smaller and have fewer than prior KC or Pekin ducks I’ve had.

Eating 2 of the 3 eggs I got. Not bad color of yolk I don’t think.

Couple questions:

1)Is it normal for the whites to be so gelatinous? Noticed they were way thicker than store bought chicken eggs. Even just chicken eggs in general.

2) an I correct that the 1 egg is NOT fertilized? I couldn’t find the marking on the other egg.
