We got the shingles on as I mentioned last week.....And....we did get most of the coop primed and painted on Saturday, during the nice weather we had !
I even siliconed all the little spaces where water could erode the wood.

Just need to paint the trim next. Gonna go with white trim.
We used a good oil based paint on the whole thing ....so it should last for years, I hope!!! Found a nice ''Antique Red Barn Paint '' type color that I really wanted for it. Since I was a little kid living in the big city of KC....I always wanted to live on a farm with a big red barn. NOW I do!!!

I am soooo blessed !!!

Got the inside finished as well...except for the little chicken door down on the bottom .......Hubby is gonna design a sliding door with a pully system for me to be able to raise it open it from the outside. He put in 2 little windows up on the back wall for light and air. He even put little latches on them.....bless his heart!!!

Then he is gonna wire it for power, so I can keep my brooder box in it !!
( Our chicks wont arrive till April 2, so it wont be too cold by then ?)

He is also gonna put in a motion light outside , to deter varmints.

( like the coons or foxes

that attacked our other flock last year ! )
The motion light will also be for me to be able to go to the coop 20 x each night , as I check on the fuzzy butts every hour!!!!!

I am sooo excited !!!! I will post a link to my pix when it is all painted!!

We are in a severe weather watch here...this time of year we have to deal with tornadoes....I used to love storms ...not so much anymore....they are hitting way too close for comfort lately!!
Just wanna thank all of you who posted pictures of your coops , so we were able to learn so much to make this new coop of ours just right!!! It will be totally predator proof...not even a skinny snake will be able to penatrate these walls!! HA!!

CYA all on BYC!!! Mary Ann

Sounds pretty good!

Remember, in early April, you're going to need heat on those chicks- read it in "Raising Baby Chicks" in the Index above here. The motion light is great. I don't have power out there, but I found a solar light online and it helps with those nighttime visits!

Sounds like you have a great set-up!

It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? You think it'll NEVER be done and then boom: it's almost there, just finishing touches!

Congrats!

And thanks for the motion light concept: I need to do that to discourage the coyotes/mountain lions.

Yes...

I still cant believe it was just a set of plans we saw on-line , just a few months ago!

I am so proud of my wonderful DH for making this dream come true for me!!!

I am glad WE dont have to worry about mountain lions when we go out side!! Man!! So scary!! I cannot imagine!!
sad.png

And the idea of SOLAR lights is fantastic! I never considered that!! I can line the edge of my walkway with them! Cool Idea!!!

When we get the power all wired in soon ...then I will be getting on BYC reading up on ' Raisin baby chicks ' to learn all about the brooder process before April 2

!!

We plan on puttin in the heat lamp to hang above the brooder box , to be able to adjust it as needed....which I think,

I will set up on a table in the middle of the coop....so I dont have to bend over all the time , to care for the babies..

Again ...thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and advice!!
