It is snowing. The Flock is locked up. What do you do ?

Mine have run open to them everyday. At the start of winter they did not come out in the first snow for one or two days. But since then, they spend 80% of each day outside. 1/2 the run has a roof and north and west walls are covered with heavy mill plastic to keep most of blowing snow out.

They love it outside and know if I am going to give them a treat it will be in the run!

There is too much snow here (West Virginia) and my happy little hens are just staying inside.

I give them things to play with, for example, I roasted some potatoes and then hung them from the ceiling of the coop for them to play with.

OK then, the weather here has pretty much broken. It was near 40 and the snow is melting.

Problem is, now the chickens STILL will not come out of the BARN !!! Oh, now the Guineas are out in force, but of course flying wherever they need to go (patches of grass with out snow), but the chickens ? oh hell no, no way they are coming out.

BTW, I have NEVER seen a Guinea Fowl glide as far as mine do. I mean to say they are doing about 200 feet, no problem with just a quick up and into the glide about 15 feet above the ground, IT is amazing.

My Guineas seem to LOVE to fly, they always have. Granted they run like the dickens, but they break into a flight/glide often.

At least the barn roof is near free of snow and this will help with heating the structures interior.

Maybe tomorrow the flock will emerge, maybe not. I am just surprised the Guineas are out. I guess they have a lot of steam to blow off as they are pretty hyper creatures.
