IT JUST MOVED!!!!!!!

5 toes are a Silkie thing. Probably it's an Americauna or EE and Silkie cross...interesting.

Here is another pic. I want badly to think there is a reason, but i think its just not developed right. it seems to be surviving ok. I like my birds different anyway. So as long as its not a rooster, we'll be ok

Poor little thing.

I think its neck looks a little funny too.....but it could be just because i never did this before.
So, i thought a silkie just had feathers that stuck up. Is it the birds entire head sticking up?
Its a strong little bugger, i cant wait to see what it looks like dry.

Lurky,

Polish chicks also have the vault skull and some of mine had 5 toes.

When we hatched the polish at school the kids said "Look Ms. Campbell it's got a knot on it's head do you think it should be called Knot-head?"

I think your baby is just fine just a suprise for you.

I hope your right. I feel sorry for it. I think it will be cute. I did look at some pics of silkie chicks and i dont think they have the lump. I was looking into the polish now but i dont think he has any of those either. I will call him tomorrow. I was thinking it was my fault for stopping turning too soon. I stopped on Sat. because i was not sure of the hatch day.

Hi Lurky,

Congratulations! What a cute, and strange looking little chick. i was searching for chick pictures on the internet and found this one link:

The first picture shows a polish and he has a head boomp. You're little one has a bigger head boomp. Maybe it will get smaller as the chick gets bigger? Maybe it's a Polish Silkie cross?

Well.....my new little misfit cleaned up to some interesting color. Here are a few pics to show how it looks dry. I do not think this lump is a breed trait but rather a very odd lump that should not have been there. We think it is cute and i was relieved it was alive this AM. I was worried that whatever this 'lumpthing' was might cause misfit to not live. I think misfit seems very strong this AM and i left it in the incubator. I think i will be getting my mypetchicken banties at 7:30. I'll try to post pics of them too before i go to work for the day. I wonder if i should put misfit into the brooder with the banties? Someone said to leave misfit in the bator 24 hours.

I am going to call the guy and find out for sure what he has around there. When i was at the house where i got the egg, i was more into checking out his coop set up. I got some cool ideas from it. So i know he had a red/brown ameraucana which i thought was mom....but i dont know about Dad other than i know he has no ameraucana boys.
