only the shadow knows.....
Got up around 7 this morning. Was letting out the cats when I saw something out by the BobWhite flight pen.

HOLY CHICKEN FEATHERS BATMAN!! It was a sharp shin hawk. I watch him as he walked up to the flight pen and tried to jump at it and grab a quail. He was going at it full out talons!! Good thing it's made out of 1/2 in hardware cloth! He couldn't get too them.

My chickens were over in their run throwing a fit that he was there. I wasn't worried about him getting the chickens as he was much smaller than them.

Worry about your chickens too. Those are hawks that feed on birds, and yes they will take full grown pheasants and chickens.

Wasn't a kestral/sparrow hawk. Definately a sharpy from the pics. I know it wasn't one of the redtails that have a nest further down the hill. They are much bigger

Ok if sharp-shinned or cooper both will take grown chicken, both feed mostly on birds. Smaller than a chicken. Sometime a good rooster will chase them off.

Anyway keep your birds safe.
