It takes a brave chicken to steal a steak bone from a dingo's mouth

[Let me start off by saying I am so proud of my dog.]

After a nice steak dinner, I decided to give my dog, Sabina, the bone and made her go outside to eat it. All of a sudden my fat, food-obsessed hen came marching over to her and yanked the bone out of Sabina's mouth. She then proceeded to drag it over to her flockmates so they all could feast. Sabina just stared in complete disbelief, as did I.

I retrieved the bone from the hens, gave it back to the dog, and went inside. A few minutes later I hear the most pitiful whining, growling, and barking, fearing that she took revenge on the hen I ran back outside only to find that the hens had encircled my dog and proceeded taking turns distracting her, so the others could take a bite of the scraps.

She knows that I do not tolerate aggression and knows that the chickens are off limits - I could tell the complication in her mind, "should I snap at them?" In a moment of panic, she quickly made up her mind and high-tailed it, running that bone as far away from the hens as she could; the girls followed behind her with flapping wings....

It was hilarious and I wish I had my camera. My hens have to either be the bravest or most stupid chickens in the world. I just had to share this.

That is funny! I had a similar experience several weeks ago. I couldn't believe my eyes when our Baby Hoover was creeping up closer to our dog, the other hens in tow. Our Lab behaved and didn't even growl, although I wish he would have and maybe the hens would have gotten the idea. I was worried that he wouldn't give them any warning before he attacked one, so I shooed the chickens away. As soon as he finished and got up and walked away, Baby ran over to the spot looking for any scraps. Its amazing how much this hen can eat and yet she's not fat! If only I had that gene

This is a daily occurrence for our poor Jasper. Every morning, the girls pester the living daylights out of him while he's trying to eat his breakfast! What is it with chickens and their obsession with dog kibble?

It gets so bad some days that I have to stand guard with the broom, over poor Jasper and his food dish, just so that he doesn't starve! He is the very picture of patience and gentleness when it comes to the girls though. But then, as far as he's concerned, those are HIS birds!

Too funny! Sounds like ours...we have a border collie mix that wandered up. She's "slightly" food-aggressive with the other dogs (barks and snaps) but not with us...I tested her on that when I noticed. So, I saw the chickens run up and snatch her food. She reached in to grab another bite, and got pecked right between the eyes by the roo! Now, when the chickens come up, she goes and lays down til they've finished. Poor dog!

LOL!

I wish you had a camera for that!
