Something broke into the coop last night and stole 2 of my chickens. This morning my husband woke up to hear a chicken frantically peeping all alone. I searched the yard and the woods. Nothing. There wasn't a trace of feathers any where. Almost like they vanished. I went back into the woods and found a pile of freshly pluck feathers and blood. It removed the the wood board we had blocking the door and got in and took my chicks.

How do a find out what did this. Do I sit in the chair outside tonight with a gun and take aim? My husband told me now they know where the food is, they will come back.

What do you think did this?

Sounds like raccoons to me. They are smart enough to figure out your setup. Also, I have seen them travel in groups of up to five. They used to play in the tree in the front yard when we lived in that house. They terrorized the neighborhood.

Coon hunting it is tonight. HAHAHA. They'll be sorry they came in my yard.

Since it removed the wood board you had blocking the door, I would suggest reinforcing that board, or finding another way of barricading the opening.

I'm not against shooing a predator, but another raccoon's just going to come along and take the dead one's place in the food hunt.

Good luck.
