It was a possum.

Thought a rat or weasel. But my man caught a possum in the coop and blew her away. She had a bunch of babys..... So glad I wasn't there to see it. Poor things. But not a problem since.

The opposum is one of the few natural predators of rats....

Too bad the possums don't concentrate on the rats then - I'm sure there are plenty to go around - it's just easier to get "sitting ducks" err chickens.

Indeed it IS too bad; we've had rats kills our smaller hens and young pullets before.

I had something get 18, count them, 18 of my babies in one night.

No blood, feathers or fuzz left behind. The next night got a rat in the trap. I'm sure there were more, but they didn't take the bait.
