We have 3 rented hens- I was hoping to keep 2 that we've fallen in love with. Our 4 week old chicks have been in their coop and run out back all day while the hens free range (the hens generally ignore them and stay far, far away!)

We've held the chicks and hens at the same time so they could be up close and personal, but still no interest.

Today (knowing the hens are leaving on Friday), we brought our sweetest girl and put her in the run with the 6 chicks (and my 8 year old daughter

). Went GREAT. The chicks were scared, but Pot Pie was cool with them. We also introduced her to the coop that will soon be hers. Interested, but unimpressed. Then we brought Chickie and did the same thing. She looked as though she may peck, apparently the chicks picked up on this because they all huddled tight in the corner together. The greatest part wasthat Chickie went over to the corner and huddled with them to see what was going on....didnt see anything exciting and walked away.

It was SOOOOO darn cute and funny!

I'm very hopeful that this transition wil work well. I allowed the babes to be outside with the hens tonight, but they didnt interact. I plan to do that over the next 2 days, however, it cant be for extended periods, as these little buggers can escape easily. I think I'l end up putting them in the same coop Thursday night....In case it's baf..or should I try Wed, so they can have 2 nights to adjust before scheduled pick up....cause if it goes really bad the big girls will have to leave...I dont expect that to happen, though....ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS????
