It'll be Back!

I have tossed in carrots, apples, and melons. No luck with the empty cans of cat food-YET.Just keep trying.Position and camo of the trap is important too. I threw long grasses over my.One time a black mat to make it tunnel like. I had my trap by the animal *highway* though, and got pests even when the trap was not covered or baited!

Sorry for your loss, and keep those traps set 24/7.Some dried corn might be good too. Empty cans of tuna and sardines.Marshmallows,lol.

We drill a hole down the center of an apple and wire tie ( zip tie) it to the inside side of the cage. We also have to put big rocks or blocks on top of the cage to keep the raccoons from turning it over. Good luck!

Have any of you tried using Night Guard Solar? it is supposed to emit a red light that scares off predators? Has any one had any good / bad luck with that?

I just read about those this morning, and I was really interested in getting one. Not sure if they work though...

.5" hardware cloth (sheets or rolls) can be used to cover any susceptible seams/holes/other weak points in perimeter/windows/etc. Some flour, spread around entry point or trap (if ground has been dry for several days) can sometimes be useful in IDing prints left by intruder. If coop/run is pretty close to an electrical outlet (extension cord) a $20.00 baby monitor is an excellent method of either getting a drop on pred (chickens start growling/whining get rifle and spotlight) or waking one up in time to otherwise intervene (if one is home, of course).

An older thread with some live trap mods to riff off of: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/232969/modifications-for-standard-havaharts-save-time

Good luck!
