It's a new world

Thank you all for your warm responses! The coop I ordered is supposed to provide room for 8 and its got a 4 star review; 9 of the 12 reporting love it. It is 50"w x 80"l x 43"h, but the length includes the little run area, which is way too small in my opinion. I plan to let them run and play in a much larger area, which will have electric poultry fencing all around. I have taken a picture of the area where I am thinking of putting the coop, but it has lots of tree covering and leaves on the ground; there is little direct sunlight. Will this area likely cause problems?
That's the problem with pre-fab coops. They are marketed as being able to provide housing for three times as many birds as they can actually house. And new chicken keepers don't know any different.
I'm sorry to say, your coop is way too small. If there is any way to send it back unopened, you should. You'd be better off converting a shed into a coop.
Look around on your local CL to see if anyone is selling one. Or try getting one that had been discounted at a local big box store.

I was afraid that the coop I ordered would be too small. I had considered building a coop myself, but I gathered from what I have read that the building of a coop is something like a science. Chickens have particular needs and I'm not confident I know all those needs. I was afraid I would put something together that would make them sick. You provide good ideas. If I can catch the UPS guy tomorrow delivering it, I will ask him to return it.
Where can I find a simple coop building plan? I am no carpenter.

A garden shed is a good building block, but check out the links I posted Where you will find examples of coops.

Click on the My Coop link in my avatar. It will take you to by shed to coop conversion article I wrote for my coop. I put a lot of information in there. You could easily add poop boards and roosts, a pop door and nest boxes to a shed. Windows aren't hard either. I show how I did mine. Hopefully it will help you.
