When we had them in the brood box (huge cardboard box in the garage), we had to really keep things tidy. When the girls moved into the coop, our biggest challenge was getting them back in there when we couldn't keep an eye on them in the yard. Now, if they are in the yard and the sun starts to go down, they wander into the run by themselves. A short time later and we can watch them going up the ramp and put themselves to bed. If we don't let them out of the run, they are still happy to be out, and we can watch them from our window.
Our next major benchmark will be allowing them access to the nest boxes, and collecting our very first egg.
