I havent been on forum for a long time and have found my way back here, realizing the need to keep in touch with other bird lovers/breeders. we are Storys Game Birds in Southern Virginia. We raise gamebirds only - Bobwhite Quail, Chukar, and Ringneck Pheasant. We started raising birds as a business last year rather than a hobby and are expanding again this year. We are hatching our own chicks this year and are incubating like crazy. I love when the chicks are first born - the miracle of life is amazing.
Our names are Wayne and Sharon Story (Sharon is the one online). We have several businesses including our own small real estate company and storage facility. We have a 3yr old daughter although we are ages 50 and 45, respectively. We also have 2 older children from Wayne's first marriage that are 19(boy) and 16(girl).
We got started with all this because we wanted to do something on our farm that is mostly all wooded to give our daughter (Jessie Anne) the life we both had growing up on a farm. We started out with a small chicken flock just raising chickens for the eggs and enjoyment. Then expanded to gamebirds because of Wayne's love for bird hunting and the sound of the Bobwhite Quail in the morning. It was supposed to be a hobby but like all things we do - we go overboard. The next thing I knew we had over 3000 quail on the farm. You can look at our website to see our flight pens (12x60) that we raise the quail in as well as our pheasant pen. We are building a hatching/brooding building this year so we can expand our quail as well as 3 more pheasant pens. I love being here on the farm most of the day.
Anyway - I will try to visit the forum more often and become a good BYC member
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
