It's been two weeks and I wanted to check in

It's been two weeks since my last post ( had to put in the garden) and I wanted to say "hi" and thanks for all the great replies. I really had fun reading them. Everyone here is so helpful and supportive. My six girls are doing great except they sure do look different!!! They are all feathery and fuzzy mixed. My one regret about getting these six chicks is that I didn't get a camera at the same time. The only remaining part of their bodies that even remotely looks like the chicks I brought home is their sweet little heads. But, that is soon to change as I see the feathers starting there too. They grow soooo fast. I wanted to thank everyone for the great snack suggestions. I have been giving mine some wheat (the good kind) bread and the occasional meal worm they seem to love both, but now I am worried about the grit. I am going to the feed store tomorrow and will get some then. Also, I ran out of pine shavings so I have been giving them hay (Timothy and "regular") to bed in. They scratch/pick at it for an hour or two then seem to "nest" in it. Could this type of bedding be harmful. I would hate to hurt them while trying to help. I will pick up more pine shavings tomorrow. They sem to really enjoy the hay though. I just want to say again, how much I enjoy this site. It is so nice to meet people who truly understand what it means to have these feathered friends in your life. I am difinately going to be in the chat room at 8pm and hope to talk to some of you there as well. Thanks again to all of you and any insight on the bread/meal worm snack and hay bedding would certainly be appreciated.
One other thing, two of my chicks are distinctly larger than the rest. Do you think that they could be roosters? Is there a way to be certain? I don't think that I am ready for roosters.
Well, I'll cope with roosters if I have to.

Glad to hear your babies are doing so well. We too had to get the garden in, what a job!!
I use straw in by brooder after they are about 5 weeks old. Thats what we use in the coop, and I want them to be used to it before moving them out to the big world! Less stress I think.
Glad you were able to find your way back! Now, get a cup of coffee( or tea, soda) and sit back and watch the garden and chickens grow.
