Been having a shortage of duck eggs and some chicken eggs......what's going on?
Found 21 Mallard eggs and 5 chicken eggs (?) all carefully hidden between the fence and the duck house! We only have 3 Mallards, so I think it is a communal nest and the chickens thought that was cool and added some to the pile. Going to float test them and see if we can still eat them. They have not been sat upon. I candled them and they are all clear.
But I am not finding my Rouen's eggs. She has been a one a day layer for months now. Has she suddenly stopped laying? I searched everywhere in the run and can't find any.....dug down in the chicken coop and the duck house and nada, except for a Mallard egg that somehow was nicely balanced on the chicken's roost!!!
Maybe not so elementary after all. I refuse to be outsmarted by a duck. If there aren't any, is there a reason she would just stop laying?
