It's happening!

Ruler,
you will be AMAZED at what 4 week old chicks can do. Mine will be 4 weeks in a couple of days and most of them can already find their way to the top of their 16” enclosure wall and perch there. Their ability to find food is beautifully instinctive. They will make you proud, and you wonder why you ever worried. And you will love them!

Oh my goodness! Thank you everyone for the welcome and kind advice! The baby girls are doing great so far! They act afraid of me still. Does this go away or are they nervous nellies? They were outside for a bit yesterday, but stayed right by their door..chickens! Lol, but really liked the sun. It's been really cold here in Illinois. Below freezing at night but they're doing great!

Is your brooder on the ground? When you stoop over their brooder, you look like a predator and their natural instinct is to evade predators.
Is your coop a walk in style? If it is, you can let them out in there and sit on the floor and let them come to you.

Oh I love your picture! Mine is a walk in. I've been sitting out there with them like that, but they stay to the opposite side I'm on. It hasn't been but a few days, so I'm hoping they'll get used to me and start coming onto my lap like yours do! I haven't been picking them up to much but try to pick each one up every other day to look them over and make sure they look good. No pasty butt or anything, I'm so happy to report! They're so sweet and cute. You all are right! I love them each so much!

Like mine DID. They change when they hit puberty.
Just sit quietly. Hold your hand out with some dried mealworms in it. Don't move. Let them come to you. Move slowly, talk softly. They will eventually come to think of you as a walking treat dispenser. Enjoy it while it lasts!
They usually don't stay that way once they start laying. I have two chickens in my flock that don't pull away from me and let me pick them up or stroke their chests if I want to. I don't mind them being cautious. It will keep them alive longer.
