It's here! It's here! WOOT!!!

I bought an Acu-Rite hygrometer/thermometer combo from Wal-Mart for a little less than $8. I haven't plugged my bator in yet. I've had to much to do.

I'm getting ready to go plug it in though! I'm anxious to see how everything works!

I would seriously recommend that you do the salt test on that hygrometer before setting your eggs in and relying on it.

I bought three of them and all of them salted tested at least 12% points low.

I have two of those units. They both used to work perfectly, but they are not designed to be inside that humid enclosed environment, so can later on, not work as well as they started out working. One of mine is pretty accurate, but I know that the other one's hygrometer unit reads about 10% lower than it should. As long as I always know that, I'm fine. It also helps to retest them between each incubation to be sure nothing has changed. I'm using one right now in a bator.

I have an acurite too. What is the salt test?

And I always see people have their acurite inside the incubator. Is that where it needs to be kept? I have the probe going into a homemade water wiggler, so can't the unit just sit outside the bator?

Editing to say congrats on your new incubator and best wishes on your hatch in it!!! Lost track of what thread I was in, sorry for the hijack

Mine is running now, (FINALLY!) and so far it looks good! Do you already have eggs to put in yours?

Yes I set it up first and let it run for an hour then I put in the auto turner then 20 minutes later I put in the eggs and plugged in the turner. They have been in their for about half a day now.

Thank MissPrissy! My kids and I are excited to try this out! My three year-old has helped me set the whole thing up. She is soooo excited to hatch more chicks for the bathroom! (Sorry, long story and was in another post.

It's to calibrate the hygro. Put it in a ziplock bag with a cup of wet salt, just a 1/4 c of salt wet down some. Leave for 8 hours and it should read 75%. If not, adjust your readings by the amt it's off.

If your Acurite is OUTside the bator, the hygrometer will be reading the room humidity, not the bator humidity. The probe does not read humidity.
