it's hot!!!!! help!

I saw on a post here some where that they made a "cool room" type of thing. A box where they had ice packs covered with something and the chickens could take turns going inside and cooling off.

I agree with the other posts. I live in Florida and it has been hot here. We usually get rain every day in the summer but we have had a dry summer this year where we are. I make sure my birds have shade. Their run is covered but I still put a tarp that comes down over the sides some to help keep the sun out. I hose down their run and yard where they like to dust bathe. I make giant ice cubes and put them in their water. I have a shallow storage container that I fill with nice cool water every day and they like to wade in it. I have put sprinklers in their yard but they don't particularly like the sprinklers. Also I put electrolytes with vitamins in their drinking water.

I take it back chickens do get wet on purpose, it rained here yesterday and when I came home last night 90% of my hens were soaking wet. They have access to the coop and under the coop and could have stayed toasty dry all day but chose not to. So chickens do get wet on purpose.

MIne birds hate the sprinklers but they seem to love to be in the rain when it rains.

the best thing is make sure they have lots of cool fresh water available and shade to stay in. My birds seem to have a regular rotation each day of shaded places they go too.
