Hi, everyone!!

This is my first post here, so . . . nice to meet you!!

My boyfriend and I are so excited -- we just candled our eggs again and something is moving in one of them!!! There are lots of veins and a couple of dark spots, maybe eyes??

We are extremely surprised because we found these eggs abandoned in a park that has lots of chickens. There were tons of eggs heaped together in a bad spot with several broken and rotten. They were all ice cold, and we think a gardener or landscaper may have dumped them there after moving them.

But we have a very broody banty silkie who does nothing but sit on dud eggs 24/7, so we took three and gave them to her to sit on. It's been more than a week, and after candling them several times with no promising signs, this morning we candled them again and one was obviously doing great!!!!

Now we have a more complicated situation . . . we have ten eggs arriving from McMurray Hatchery through the mail on Friday . . . Between the staggered hatching dates and the fact that my banty bird is going to have a hard time heating more than ten eggs, I think we may have to buy or make a bater.

It's a better idea than my boyfriend's. He thinks it's so funny to say we're going to have to sit on some of the eggs ourselves.

This is Brigid's, my boyfriend's and my first time hatching . . . so sorry for the long post, but this is quite an event for us!!!!!!!

Anybody's suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Id say give as many as you feel comfy with to the broody hen the rest get an incubator for. But I'm a newbie so wait for more experienced advice oh and of course

First of all

Ok so you should definatly get an incubator, 10 standard eggs are too many for a silkie, I have mine sitting on 11 but there bantam eggs so there significatly smaller than standard eggs. Just get an incubator, believe me you will need it once you start hatching chicks you wont be able to stop becomes an addiction!!!!!!!!
