Well my friends you were right it turns out my silkie was a boy after all :) I was up at 6am this morning making breakfast for my daughter when all of the sudden I heard something.....it was Snoopy crowing

At first I wasn't sure if it was him so I snuck out there and sure enough it was. This was like music to my ears. He's now doing this funny thing where he runs around real cute like and will run up to the other female silkie and the 2 other female leghorns and puff up his feathers and run off. It's so funny

but what is that supposed to mean is he just playing ? On a side note all my girls are squatting when I scratch them on the neck and back I even have one that follows me around the pen so I will pet her some more what is the meaning of this I thought I read that means they will be laying soon or does it simply just mean they are really comfortable around me ? I would hope so being that I've had them since they were a week or so old. They are now exactly 20 wks today.I was thinking they were 20wks a wk or 2 ago but I was wrong its today. Well I just wanted to share my lil' story with ya'll this morning thank you in advance for your answers to my questions :) Everyone have a blessed day !!!

I don't raise chickens so I don't have advice on your problem but congrats on the boy!

They think your the head roo. Yes, you should get eggs soon. Your cockerel puffing up its just his way of expressing himself. The pullets are getting into position for mating.I usually just pet their backs & they stand up & puff up & shake their feathers. I've read that they shake to help mixs the sperm up in their body. Something like that. I like them at that age they become calmer & will let you touch them with no problem. Yup, eggs are coming your way. I'm sure you'll go bonkers when you go to the coop & find an egg.

I just come from outside washing out there water containers and decided to have a seat and just watch 'em for a bit well the silkie rooster and the silkie female were standing side by side and the female was rubbing her head all over the rooster it was so cute.Is this how they act before they would start mating ? Also a quick question hope this dont sound dumb but I was wanting edible eggs not babies will this still be the case ?

As long as you harvest the eggs daily, they wont have a chance to start developing.
