Good grief, my Dominique rooster, Russell, is a MANIAC!! He just took a nice scoop off my boot...Then DS had the coop door open and in Russell came, both guns blazing, headed right for DS and the door. My son quickly backed up and shut the door, and SMACK! Russell meets door...He is a tough bird, for sure!

Every once in a while a roo gets too defensive. I haven't figured out how to break them of this yet. I don't spend "pet time" with my flock so that may have something to do with it.

I would put it in the slow cooker, but feel free to search for other tips (I know they are out there) and see if you can break him of this. Good luck!

I don't like Roos that get that cocky. (No pun intended

) There are some threads on here about "taming" a roo. I'm just not sure how effective they are. Some people have great success and some don't. Don't get me wrong ... I love Roos! They are so pretty. But I can't have a bird that is aggressive - not since I have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old. Also .. keep in mind that if you wanted to re-home him you would have to be upfront about his attitude. This may make it very hard to find a place for him where he would not end up on the menu.

Good
luck!

At this point it is something that we are just dealing with. He is more "bark" than "bite" Believe me, I will know when the line has been crossed, and we will be rid of him, one way or another. Deep down inside, I don't feel like it is time yet. He has 11 hens to keep him busy..you would think he would be laid right out panting and clutching his chest!

How old is he? Might be going through that dreaded teenage stage. I've noticed my roos getting more aggressive with each other since it's spring.

If you want to keep him around .. go to that link I posted. You need to start asserting yourself as head bird in charge. And fast! If not he will get worse. I hate to say it, but he will. He will keep pushing it a little farther each day or week and eventually he will be out of control. You need to reign in the "bark" before he gets to "biting"!

I sent my 2 beautiful RIR Roos to freezer camp last Spring. They were gorgeous, got along with each other pretty well and great guardians for the flock. But I did not assert myself fast enough and I was very sad to see them go.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do! You do know what is best for your flock .. you will make the right choice!
