Well, I am ready to admit, I have made the cross and do not regret it. First, this morning when I was putting one of my girls (Akita girl, not chick girl) in her kennel, I noticed a very, teeny, tiny toad. I mean, tiny. And I thought "Oh, I should put that in with the chicks, they would LOVE that!!". But I decided that might be cruel, and since I try to save the toads from the dogs, why should I sacrifice one to the chicks?? I knew they would love it, after they got over being terrified of it, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. What shocked me was that I even THOUGHT to do that!!!! Very unlike me!!!!
Then, tonight, I was picking up the dust bathing bowl and box from their outdoor "playpen". They only go in that on the weekends when it's nice out and they can be out there for a while when I am home. As I dumped the box I thought "Well that was silly, I could have saved that dirt for future use." Again, not like me. So I carried the empty box, and the partially full giant dog bowl in the house, and thought...I should put the bowl in the brooder, which is in my...bedroom. I hate to admit it, but that is the only place that had space large enough for the brooder. And I thought "Mess be darn, they should be able to dust bathe if they want to, they enjoy it so much!" So, now I have a bowl of dirt in the brooder in my bedroom, and I'm sure there will be dirt all over the place when I get home tomorrow. Ah well, at least I will know they had a good time while I was gone
I DID think to put it at the back side of the brooder where the "wall" is about 30" tall, so hopefully that will contain SOME of the mess!!!
My husband asked me tonight (as I was browsing the forums on BYC), "Are you now 'all chickens, all the time'?" Why yes, yes I am...
