Hey, if someone from the USA is willing to do this, I can help them with the genetics no problem, but I would appreciate that once we get stable breeding program if they could save me a young pair and I will pay the transport to Nicaragua.

This male clearly has a pea comb and it looks quite nice, the white earlobes extend to the dewlap(cemanis don't have white earlobes, so the dewlap is mostly black), Fibromelanotic will turn that earlobe/dewlap to a beautiful turquoise color. How about a Blue egg laying Ayam Bekisar?

I was just thinking about a similar project earlier this week. I'm in the USA and I know where to find green jungle fowl breeders. I also have more than enough pen space as I just put up 2,500 square feet worth of them this fall.
I'm not so much into genetics though so if I did start something here id definitly be interested in working with you.
With all that being said though, I probably won't have time to start a project like this until sometime late next year. I've got a lot of other things going on so something like that would be more of a side project for me.
@Kessel23
Personally I’ve always wanted an oscellatedxdomestic turkey variety, but Occelated turkeys are even harder to find that green jungle fowl around here! Very fragile too.
Nice project.
That would be awesome too but definitly more tricky than the green jungle fowl project like you said.
We have a complete metal green house frame that's around 4,500 square feet when it is set up. It hasnt been set up for a while now though. I'd like to get a new foundation put in for it and set it up then I would have a really controlled environment for more sensitive species like ocellated turkeys.
I know a guy for the foundation work so it's not as unrealistic of a goal as it sounds 😅

Thanks, I really would appreciate if we could work together even if it's late 2022. I will start working on the Fibromelanistic Blue egger from my end, so if I can only bring a Single Ayam Bekicem Cockerel to Nicaragua from your breeding stock, that would be my dream come true.

I'm not sure how hard it is to import birds into Nicaragua, that could end up being the hardest part.
For prices on the Green jungle fowl, I haven't looked much but I see them listed at $450-800USD per bird. Pretty expensive. I'm sure I could find them for cheaper though if I called some people.
And I'll have to see what the situation is looking like for me next year. A lot of other random expenses will probably come up unexpectedly like they always do lol. I'd like to get a pair of them and continue a purebred line but just use the cock bird to breed to other domestics as well to start those projects without negatively impacting the specie's captive population.

I was quoted $900 from a Mexican breeder for a single Gallus varius cockerel, that was like 2 years ago. For this project only two males/cockerels are required(one is a backup). If you would like to keep a pure line I would recommend getting the females from a different breeder

Yeah I would like to get more than what's required for this project so I know I can get my money back from their offspring. Though I'm sure birds created from the project could make the money back quickly too if they were marketed correctly.
What do you think the cost will be for you to import birds?

I have been quoted about $300 per bird transported to Nicaragua. That is just the import not the price of the bird.

Often times we see that many enthusiastic posters would love to create their own cool looking or very unique chicken breed, they would like to add features of many breeds into their own. This is very cool and it will teach them a lot about chickens and a lot about themselves(as in perhaps you are not as patient or dedicated as you thought you were), it's truly a learning experience. Well guys it's my time to do that.

The truth is that I am not creating a new breed as it's pretty ancient, but not found on this side of the world(the Western Hemisphere). Also in Indonesia they are just F1 hybrids, they do not pursue a self breeding breed because they are only interested on how the F1 roosters Crow. The F2s and F3s lose the distinctive crow of the F1 hybrid rooster, the F2 and subsequent progeny males crow like regular domestic roosters.

The name on Indonesia is Ayam Bekicem(Bekisar Cemani), they are the result of the breeding of a male Green Junglefow with a Cemani hen, they looks spectacular.

Green Junglefow(Gallus various) also called Ayam Hutan Hijau in Indonesia

This one seems to have a pea comb, which is very interesting as well(Clearly not Cemani Heritage but melanistic itself)

My biggest hurdle will be getting a Green Junglefowl male, other than that the breeding program is pretty straight forward.

I've seen those crosses before. I just forgot what they were called.

Maybe this is a clue to where the pea comb actually came to be?

In the Bekisar the Dewlap is just an extension of the earlobes, as you know Silkies have Turquoise colored earlobes, but that is because Fibromalanotic turns white earlobes to that color, I have seen a Bekisar with White face and dewlap which is the result of a cross between a green jungle fowl and a white face spanish hen. Le me find the video,

The bird pictured is from Indonesia so its exact heritage is un unknown just that is clearly a Bekisar with fibromelanotic and pea comb
Looks like the same cross, but just a different comb type popped up.

Maybe we'll know for sure once you begin your project?
