Hi! I'm Jason from NE Georgia. I just signed up to this site so that I may live vicariously through all of you until I am in a place to start my chicken adventures.
My dad grew up on a farm in south GA and I was exposed to chickens during visits as a young 'un. As I've gotten older (mid 40s, very recent birthday, in fact), I have been gravitating more and more to the idea of going back to the self-sufficient, harmony-with-the-land way of life. I'm working toward it. I'll get there. I'm currently tethered to a property management job that requires my living on site. There's no room for the chicks, gardening, wild bird feeding/watching, etc. It is OK, for now. I'm very gladly helping an elderly and ill family member. I'm putting away bits of money. And, I'm making plans.
Part of that planning includes chickens. I am a bit taken aback as to why I am SSSOOO adamant about having them (laying hens - no roosters - don't think I could do meat birds (although, nothing is more delicious) but am open to the idea). But I must have them. On vacation last summer, I toured a garden with an animal section. It had a flock of Dominiques - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. My family will not be complete w/o chickens!!!
I've been checking out this website for a while now and decided it was time to join in. Thanks to those who have taken the time to read through this. I'd love to become a part of this community. You all are so loving, encouraging and helpful. I am in the planning stage now and hope to learn from you all to provide the best home for my ladies when the time is right.
Thanks!

Too many exclamation points, originally. I AM very excited but don't need to shout.
