Well, we have a pip out of the first batch of eggs. The next is set to hatch tomorrow or Sunday, and the next won't hatch until Halloween! For you picture hungry people, I will be taking pictures as soon as I can get the three broodies on the nest off long enough to get one!
For the question, if chicks are left with their mother, how cold is too cold? We have been having days in the 70's and nights in the 50's, but a cold front is moving in this weekend, and it may dip down into the 30's at night. My chickens are still in a pen with a cage (covered in tarps for now) to sleep in. I don't want the little ones to get too cold, especially with these being the first chicks from my chickens. I have three brooders if I need them (for the different sets of eggs).
Thanks,
Emily in NC - Who is heading back out to wait impatiently for her first grandchick to hatch!
