Oh I'm having one of those, "What the heck did I just do?!" moments!

I just ordered 31 day old chicks from Welp to be here on March 8th.

Hubbie only knows that he asked me to get one hen, teeheehee. I had 8 hens and 5 roosters as of Monday, but now I'm down to 2 roosters and 3 hens thanks to a pig attack. She got one of my favorite hens too, Waffles, my barred rock that I found out after had just started laying when I found a hidden clutch. She (the pig) also got my two bantam girls that laid white eggs and two of my Lavender Ameraucanas that laid beautiful green eggs.

Anyway, I'm blaming my recent purchase on extreme distress! I can't wait to have a yard full of peepers again though! Now I have to go in search of my heat lamps, my brooder boxes, my sanity....

Its so easy to do it! The numbers add up before you know it! Trust me... I speak from experience!

Sounds like a dangerous place for chickens. Oh well they are kind of on the bottom of the food chain. Good luck in the future.

This is the first time I've lost any, ever! We live across the street from an auction yard and animals get loose every so often. Usually it's no big deal, but pigs get dangerous quickly. We found that out the hard way, anyway, piggy went to butcher today.

I was amazed how addictive this chicken thing gets. We started less than a year ago and we are up to 27 chickens and 2 ducks and in the morning I should be getting 26 more chicks 5 more ducks and 2 geese! It's like a drug. It cost money, it get's in your blood, and impossible to stop without going into rehab!

Even my husband who wasn't into the idea too much but went along with me is addicted. He even has a hen he has claimed as his own and named her "Sweetie". And some of the babies we have coming in are one's he wanted. It's a sickness really and catching. My grandpa wants some of the babies I hatch at some point when he gets ready for them. LOL!
