I am so excited to share that two of my four 20-week old pullets (hens now?) squatted when I went to pet them yesterday evening. They are the two lowest in the pecking order - a Silver-Laced Wyandotte and an Easter Egger. I am excitedly awaiting eggs and can't wait to see who lays first. Is egg-laying imminent once they start the squatting behavior? Do all hens/pullets squat to signal maturity? Now I'll be watching for squatting in my other two girls and eggs! Hopefully, my Barred Plymouth Rock and Buff Orpington (queen of the flock) will "get with the program" soon. I still don't know what my hubby and I are going to do with potentially 4 eggs a day, but I'll worry about that problem when I start getting those lovely gifts!
