I've got worms - lots of lovely worms!

The easiest thing to feed my mealworms has been carrots (just as they come from the market, unpealed with green tops removed). Carrots have good moisture, last a while, & do not mold/rot as easily as apple, etc. Of course I check on the carrots to make sure there is no mold present; when replacing carrots, be sure to check for hitchhikers like the mealworms & beatles. Just place a carrot on top of the wheat bran bedding &/or burlap piece over the wheat bran bedding, then layer over with a few pieces of brown paper bag or newspaper (the paper layers are a good way to collect fresh mature mealworms for feeding out & it provides a shaded cover as they do not like lighting). I got my first starts of mealworms from a pet store, only get the ones that are kept in the frige, they are the ones that will breed easily. Happy mealworm feeding!

Yes, I find that carrots work well also especially when I am in a hurry. Mine seem to like the potatoes better, but then again I have Idaho mealworms and we are the potato state!

When I went online to get additional information I was surprised to find the site recommending feeding the mealworms things like cornmeal, oatmeal even powdered sugar. When I printed out the instructions I was even more surprised to find the "Mealworm Cookie" recipe. I guess this site was for eating the mealworms and different ways to prepare them for dinner. Ughhhhh.

The boys were not too happy when I told them I was going to make mealworm cookies, but the DH was interested. LOL
