I've kinda given up on early maturing egg layers....

My White Leghorn is now 25 weeks. No squatting, her comb is still not very big.

I've given up on her until spring, I think. I read all of those stories about how other peoples white leghorns laying at 16 weeks!!!

So, I'm turning to my Black Stars. They're 15 weeks old today. When do they lay? I've heard they're early maturing too. Can anybody give me some happy stories about when their Black Stars layed? (16/17 weeks would be great

) Some happy stories about White Leghorns would be great too. I hope I haven't broken a record.

I've had red stars that layed at 17 weeks! I was really surprised at that! If your daylight hours are getting shorter (In Ohio it's dark at 6pm), then light your coop...You'll get eggs!

are you 100% certain that they have no worms? and..... I read someplace where the eggs are such a large percentage of water, that we should be really providing lots of the most wonderful water that we can. -- And of course if it is cold where you are, some of their energy goes into just keeping warm instead of egglaying.

My white leghorn (actually an Ideal 236 so a Leghorn hybrid) - looked ready to lay for about two or three weeks before she actually decided to lay, and her comb got big and flopped over. Then she became an-egg-a-day layer with very very few exceptions. From the chickens that you have in your flock you will be getting lots of eggs! Hang in there. Hope it happens for you soon.

I was in the same boat as you,not an egg to be found for months. I was told when I got them (in August)they are ready to lay any day...

Last week two of my girls (barred rock and an easter egger) started laying every other day . Yesterday I had my other easter egger lay her first green egg. So hang in there they will start when they are ready.... and you have given up on them.
