I've never had chickens before...

MIne don't like pellets. I don't find that much waste with crumbles...though when I fed Dumor, it had much more "dust"than the Layena I feed now. Both are made by Purina; Dumor is just packaged for Tractor Supply...I find the Layena to be worth the extra couple of dollars per bag. It comes in pellets and crumbles; I have always fed crumbles but grabbed pellets by mistake once. The girls didn't like it, and didn't change their minds by the time we'd finished the 50 lb bag, so I switched back to crumbles.

To each their own!

24/7, hanging feeder in the coop. I put enough in to last about 2 days, and refill as they use it up. I use crumbles too, never thought to use pellets and since mine free range, I don't think I go through that much feed...then again, I got spoiled rotten chickens.

We have feed available all the time. Chickens like their feed fresh, so we add more each day rather than a lot at one time.

mine have always had access to theirs 24/7...no problems...they look forward to a handful of scratch and sunflower seeds in the AM and yummy vegies/fruit/yogurt/cottage cheese/etc...in the evenings...its our daily rituals...this is what I have to deal with at night...they all snack then jump up here and chatter at me....

I fill my feeder all the way, then let it sit empty for a few days so they clean up all the stuff they spilt. After that I clean the coop and start over again.
