Ivomec in water.

This is very helpful ... but I was wondering how I might use this product in the drinking water for 7 ducks? Any advice ... for an aging 77 year old woman who has it for chasing 7 ducks around the pen? Pleeze.
No idea on the ducks but for a 200 to 220 pound man it is 2ml every twelve hours as a preventative or 4ml after showing symptoms. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

how do you know about how much to mix ...gallon? 5 gallons? for how many birds?
how long should they be allowed to drink it?

i have about 40 adult birds now in two coops. i'd like to administer it to all birds ... we have trouble with mites and have tried elector and other remedies to no avail.

Diluting Ivermec in water is not going to help you. Thinning any medication is not going to help. If you need a hands off approach you can make dusting beds with peat moss, wood ash, and Sevin. Some people will spray the birds at night which has never worked for me.

Feather mite and lice treatment that works is to catch each bird and dust in Sevin or put 0.40ml of Ivermec pour-on on the skin. I divide it between the shoulders, above the tail, and a tiny drop behind the crest for face lice.

Well, I've run a small experiment with my peafowl and turkeys.

Having read that you could use Ivomec in their drinking water, and also some folks say that it wouldn't work because the Ivomec was oil based, I decided to bite the bullet and try it myself. First, let me add, that I'm sure that giving the fowl the Ivomec directly, either as an injection, or as an oral "drench", would be best, but, my situation makes handling my peafowl difficult, so I would rather not. Anyway, the first thing I did was add about 1/2 cc of Ivomec injectable for cattle, to some tap water to observe what it did. It did not act like an oil, it immediately went into solution! But, it also formed a white precipitate, that settled on the bottom. Hmm,....I wonder if stirring will desolve the precipitate,....voila! Into solution it went!! So,....today my peafowl and turkey are drinking Ivomec spiked water!!

Please weigh in on your experience with Ivomec, and any other thoughts.
I would sincerely love to know what ratio you used please. I have some feral hens that Im relatively sure have mites and lice. I can worm them via drinking water, but there is No Way I can de lice them physically,,, drinking water would be best method for me. Please let me know how to mix it. I have Ivomect here also.

Thanks! I have some hens that are just this side of being feral despite all my efforts to try and tame them. So far Ive only been able to worm them with liquid goat wormer in their water. I'd sure like to know if your Ivomec in water has helped or rid them of lice?

I am not Dr T and have not seen him post here for years but I can tell you that putting Ivermec or Safeguard in water is less than effective. Think of it like this, you go to a doctor and the first thing they do is to weigh you so they know how much of a certain medication you will need if they give you a prescription. When they do they do the math and you fill that prescription and you go home and put that tablet in a glass of water and you take a few sips, do you think it is going to work? No, you need to take the full amount of the drug for it to work.

Now, what I have done is to measure the amount of medication needed per bird and multiply by the number of birds in a flock and mix that drug into a wet mash that those birds will consume within a short time. Some birds will get a little more and others a little less but it is close and much more effective than leaving medication that does not mix in water laying in the bottom of the water bowl.

I have confirmed that Valbazen is water soluble and can be mixed in water at a rate of 20ml per gallon. Mix only enough water that the birds will drink within a day and make it fresh daily. I have run fecal exams and know that this will work.

If all else fails for treating lice, make a dusting station adding Sevin and wood ash which is very effective.
