Ivomec (scaly leg mites)...*PICS ADDED*

Yes that is scaly leg mites and it looks like their might be a bit of secondary infection on the second one. Tea Tree Oil will help deal with that as well as prevent a reinfestation with eggs hatching out.

It's common to think that chicken legs should be scaly when in fact smooth is the healthy norm. Those legs might never go back to really smooth, but for sure they can be healthier than that! Good luck.

I was told this

"If you have any Vick's vapo rub rub it on the legs. the menthol and camphor in it will kill the mites and also smother them with the petroleum in it. It wont hurt the chickens also. or you can use the vet rx stuff as it has almost the same ingredients. Only it has the oils in it. I gave her some other things she could get in place of the ivermction. There is Eprinex(sp) and then the generic from Jeffers"

So lastnight I went rubbing Vicks on there legs while they were sleeping so they wouldnt run from me LOL

I ended up buying the Ivermectin they didnt have the Epinex. I gave the cochin 6 drops because he is on the smaller side and the polish 1/4 cc. Thanks all for your repleys. I will post a update in a few weeks.

It is still a good idea to oil the legs even when you have used the ivermectin.
Don't forget to THOROUGHLY clean out and treat your coop... reinfestation from their coop/nestboxes is often overlooked in the management of parasites.

The birds are quarantined from the others birds and will be for probably more then a month.

Her other girls could work in a saloon they're looking so good and she doesn't want to mess that up! LOL
