I was reading about game bird chow and decided to try it on my 13-18 week old chicken pullets. We are almost done with the bag and I got a great coupon and bought another 50# bag. Same stuff and it is a starter @ 30% protein. Looked at some threads last night and noticed people were talking about layena game bird at 20% protein. Thought to ask your expert opinions?

I also supplement with oyster shell and lots of veggies from garden and a bit of freerange in the backyard. Thanks for your feedback.

I have read too much protien can cause bone & kidney problems. All layer feed I am aware
of is 16%. Dumor feed is 20% starter grower for chickens. 24% for other fowl. 15% grower/finisher chickens.

I got a different brand today & the protein is 18% for starter grower chickens.

I use gamebird feed with all of mine since I have guineas as well. I also pretty much always have chicks around that are growing as well. Mine free range everyday as long as someone is home to "supervise" and get pretty much all of our food scraps - meat and veggies. I give free choice oyster shell and feed egg shells back as well. I have no problems and it's easier than trying to keep everyone out of everyone else's food. I don't know about 30%, but maybe someone else can tell you. Mine kept right on laying through their molt on 22% though. Never skipped a beat.

I have guineas & keets and our chickens all free range. Instead of buying chick starter, gamebird starter, and layer I now only buy gamebird starter for everyone and offer oyster shell, along with the occasional scraps.
My birds all look fantastic and are super healthy and plump, but not fat. Their feathers shine

and they are all super active. Our gamebird starter is 28% and non-medicated.
