"Jack" the Naked Neck Rooster

No molting pictures - he is only 5 months. He doesn't do as well in the rain because the rain pours down his naked chest. Poor thing - the other day the hens were frolicking in the rain and he was trying to get them out of the rain - he got soaked. He was cold and wet.

I'm new to the chicken gig and live in Mexico. Very hot and humid here. The feed store here sells bare necks, as they are more tolerant of the heat. They have been total enjoyment, as they have great personalities.

Thank you for the information re: naked necks. What was the purpose for breeding them? I know there are totally naked chickens so they are just about oven ready ( how sad).

I'm surprised they haven't come up with naked Cornish X. Next I suppose will be chickens & turkeys with genetic "pop up timers." Wish people would breed toward making chickens' lives better than making them more convenient for humans.

Stupid idea just popped into my head - how about a skunk gene inserted in chickens to repel predators? Though I Guess no one would want to eat them .

The naked chickens are actually about making their lives better not worse! They are intended for very hot climates where cooling is a serious and costly issue. It has nothing to do with them being 'oven ready".
