Jake, caught on video on couch - Part Due

Crate my boy??? No way. It's his house too.

He used to love his crate. I always crate train dogs but he's perfectly house broken and never chews anything. He's a GREAT dog.

There are a couple of other details that I left out. The couch has stunk for a while from 2 dirty dogs that fought over who gets it. Before my divorce there were 3 dogs, a lot more activity, a wife who sucked at cleaning but thought she was good at it, and a guy(me) who just threw his hands up in the air. Now things are different. My house is cleaner than it's ever been and getting better. Even with the stinky couch someone can show up right now and it would be ok.

On grooming and dirty/dusty dogs:
My yard is all dirt and mud because I'm landscaping and excavated it. The dog's runs are all dirty areas. I've only just begun wiping their paws when they come inside. In the past i just said *&*^* it. When Jake comes inside his ritual is to walk into the living room and do a doggy shake. You can see the dust and fur fly.

So, my plan is this:
Groom and bathe the dogs more often
Try and contain them in less dirty/muddy areas of my yard
Vacuum more often than every other day
Clean or replace couch and keep it covered
Keep Jake off it - Yup, here we go again

Maybe the next Jake thread will be on proper grooming.

...blame it on the X....but none the less, the dogs getting up on the couch is a 3 way street...for all that lived there...it would have smelled like dog regardless, no matter the cleaning schedule. so there.

my name is grubby gretch.

Seriously PC

If you deodorize the couch, and want the hair to be at a minimum...vacuum Jake!!!

I had 2 large Rotts in the house at one time, short black hair all over everything. I used the little brush attachment on the hose and "brushed them". It made a huge difference...and they thought they were getting extra special treatment.

There is a down side though...I had to vacuum the dogs before I could vacuum the floor, or they were leaning on me and pushing me over every time I got the vacuum out!

It's the children that push it over the edge.

I understand about the crating. I've had to go back to crating one of mine at night, but only because she felt the need to wake me up every two hours so she could go bark at invisible things. Now that the crate door is shut she sleeps like a baby all night long.

The other dog "sneaks" up on the bed with me when she thinks I'm asleep. As the house is mostly uninsulated and it's cold, I let her sneak up and then stick my cold feet up under her. Who knows? If it gets really cold this winter I may let the other one out if we have a "two dog night".

Have you seen the industrial strength floor mats made to contain mud and dirt and wet? I think Lands End or LL Bean has them. One of those by the back door might help. I have a friend that taught her dogs to come in and immediately sit so she could wipe their paws off. Mine aren't that well behaved, but they have a mudroom full of rugs to run through before they hit the main house. I also matched the new kitchen linoleum to the dirt, so that helps too.
