Hi everyone I've been reading so much about incubating, especially about the Janoel 24. But I'm struggling so I'm hoping i can get some help.

I've had some really disappointing hatches. Fertile eggs not developing, fully developed eggs not hatching. For a while I thought it was problems with the humidity. But now I'm thinking that it's the temperature. I think the edges of the incubator are running too cold. I've been monitoring the temperature in the middle area very carefully with previous hatches, but I think the edges are at least 1 degree lower, maybe 2 degrees lower.

So where to from here? Attempt a warranty request and claim that it is faulty and try to get something better? Use foam to insulate the edges?

It's summer here FWIW.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

What incubator are you using? Mine seem to run cold on the edges and I cover it witha couple towels for insulation

Janoel 24
Sorry, I wasn't familiar with that incubator lol I thought it was the name of something else.

After looking at a picture of it on google, I see that the sides are plastic which isn't good at keeping things insulated which can cause the edges to feel a little cooler. What I would do is what I do with my nurture right and incuview incubators. Cover the edges where the plastic is with towels to help with insulation, I would also buy another thermometer so you can measure the temp on the edges after you've covered them with towels and see if that improves. I'm not familiar with this incubator, but make sure you're not covering any ventilation holes wherever they may be. They need those for oxygen to pass through to the eggs.

I just bought the same exact incubator for my first hatch but it has been warming up for the last 24 hours but it does not get the temperature. Did you put towels around your incubator and did that help?

I haven't tried the towels yet because I had another incubator I was trying out.

Is it coming up to temp right in the centre and near the temp sensor? The towels will probably only help if the centre is right and the edges running cold. That's just my guess.

You can adjust temp on the machine if you need to. I now have a proper calibrated thermometer so I can test it properly, I feel more confident knowing I've got the accuracy I can rely on.

yep...cover the unit.Your temps wont raise or fall because they are controlled - it cant get to hot from a setting. I run a temp test to start and calibrate it via the menu.. Humidity is a whole other story. All based on water amount and surface area. leave vent open , but if covered make the vent , vent. a towel covering it may block venting. Humidity seems hard in these units.
We have 2 gauges and both read different! but within reason.
get a proper glass tube thermometer to test temps within. I point out that the LCD ones from pet stores dont seem calibrated enough for incubating. Solution - spend good $ on a good humidity sensor to get humidity right.
